Invisible Borders
Artists
Anna McCarthy
Press release
Opening Thursday, November 20, 6 – 9 pm
McCarthy’s solo exhibition INVISIBLE BORDERS brings together a new series of collages and drawings that interrogate the notion of borders in their social, political, emotional, and sexual dimensions. Developed between Munich and New York, the works reflect McCarthy’s sustained engagement with the tensions between fragility and resistance, exposure and concealment told through a framing of 'the garden' with images surrounding overgrowth and its constraints, its aids, as well as the transcendence thereofrom. As is characteristic of her practice, the artist’s process functions as both subject and methodology. In INVISIBLE BORDERS, McCarthy extends her inquiry into precarity and solidarity by aligning herself with the discarded – relinquishing control and subjecting herself and her materials to the weather, as part of the process.
