Press release
Kunsthalle Zürich is pleased to present «Intermezzo», the first institutional solo exhibition outside Estonia by the Tallinn-based artist Kaarel Kurismaa (b. 1939, Pärnu, Estonia). Kurismaa is best known for his kinetic objects, which, following the tradition of the readymade, he began producing in the late 1960s from elements of found furniture, kitchen utensils and electronic motors. The exhibition at Kunsthalle Zürich centres on a selection of kinetic sound sculptures that Kurismaa developed primarily in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and which are presented together for the first time as a visual and sonic ensemble, staged within the spaces of Kunsthalle Zürich.
