Call Me the Breeze
Artists
Alma Allen
Press release
The exhibition presents artworks that highlight Allen's alchemical transformation of matter and explore the concept of "elevation," both as a physical manifestation of form and as a symbol of collective optimism and self-realization. Allen's new body of work explores the idea of elevation: as an aesthetic gesture, an emotional state, and a shared social aspiration. The exhibition features around 30 sculptures, including a series of new site-specific works, one of which will be installed outdoors in the forecourt of the US Pavilion. Allen has developed a singular sculptural language shaped by the geological, cultural, and spiritual landscapes of the Americas, working in bronze, marble, obsidian, parota wood, and other natural materials to create abstract biomorphic forms. He employs a hybrid process that merges centuries-old carving and hand-shaping techniques with advanced robotic technologies. Curator: Jeffrey Uslip. Commissioner: Jenni Parido / The American Arts Conservancy.
