Time Blur – Contemplating That Image We Once Recorded

Artists

Anna Orbaczewska, Luīze Rukšāne

Press release

The exhibition took shape through a year-long dialogue between the artists and explores the relationships between people and their environment, time, and memory. Both artists’ experiences are inextricably linked to the history, geography, and nature of Baltics, Eastern and Central Europe, each experiencing them from the perspective of a different generation. Luīze Rukšāne is a Latvian artist of the younger generation who currently lives and works between Hamburg and Riga, while Anna Orbaczewska is based in Gdańsk, having long pursued her creative career both internationally and in Poland. The ehxibition features collaborative and individual works by the artists, seeking to capture silence, reflection, and care. Exploring the fast-paced rhythm of contemporary life and efforts to resist it, as well as stretched moments in time and a sense of presence, the exhibition reflects on the fragile nature of memory and the emotional complexities of everyday life. The images, landscapes and situations depicted in the paintings, drawings and installations reflect an exploitative attitude of people towards nature and its resources, as well as the need to reinterpret the significance of time and the environment in our lives. Anna Orbaczewska (b. 1974, Poland). She She studied at the Faculty of Painting and Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague.
