Becoming Future
Artists
Marlene Bart
Press release
Curator: Nabi Nara
"Machined Minds: Nature Unscripted” is a solo exhibition by Marlene Bart, which is part of the “Becoming Future” series Nr. 3. The extensive 2-year-project is dedicated to Berlin’s technology-driven art domain, curated by Nabi Nara and supported by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
In her solo exhibition "Machined Minds: Nature Unscripted" Marlene Bart presents a multimedia installation that integrates virtual reality and augmented reality with physical elements such as sculptures and wall works. The exhibition delves into pattern formation and categorization systems
that influence both humans and animals, particularly focusing on the concept of "Postnatural", which serves as a tool for exploring the Anthropocene.
Bart's interest lies in how “postnatural” changes commence when humans take responsibility for the habitat of another species, and how these changes simultaneously affect humans. For instance, in her VR work "Theatrum Radix," she advocates for a cross-species dialogue and a shift in perspective to break free from anthropocentric views.
In the AR work "Patterns of Pathology," she addresses the gaps in the history of science concerning both the historical and contemporary work with EEG data. Animal Studies, interspecies Storytelling, image Studies and posthumanism are reference areas for Bart's artistic work and research.
