Press release

Pająk by BerriBlue in JEDNOSTKA is the artist's ninth solo show, and first exhibition in Warsaw Pająk [eng. Spider], when taken as a whole installation, is a form of metaphysical self-portrait. Not a representation outward of physical appearance, but a mapping of mind, body, and the space occupied between sleeping and waking. The work grows from a very personal experience of reality - one shaped by episodes of psychosis that have made the boundaries between memory, dream, and the present moment difficult to hold. What this show offers is not an account of that difficulty, but a view from inside it: intimate, sometimes uncomfortable, and at times unexpectedly tender. A sleeping man holds in a circle around him the sequence of the hours, the order of the years and worlds. He consults them instinctively as he wakes and reads in a second the point on the earth he occupies, the time that has elapsed before his waking; but their ranks can be mixed up, broken. Marcel Proust, Swann's Way, 1913. BerriBlue (b. 1992) A painter and street artist based in Warsaw. She began her career in Dublin before relocating to Porto in 2015, where she developed a practice around azulejos - traditional Portugese ceramic tiles. In the late 2010s she pioneered the use of azulejos in urban art, placing works in public spaces across Europe, in cities including Lisbon, Paris, London, Berlin, Warsaw, and Athens. She returned to Poland in 2024. BerriBlue's works have been exhibitied across Europe, in Poland, Portugal, Ireland, France, and Italy, where she participated in the 14th Florence Biennale (2023).
