Press release
Bitcoin Mining and Field Recordings of Ethnic Minorities (2018) by Liu Chuang is a three-channel video installation that delves into the complex relationships between technology, ecology, and culture in southwest China.
Collaborating with curator Yang Beichen, Liu combines found footage, original filming, and a voiceover in the endangered Muya language to explore how Bitcoin mining and modern infrastructure projects intersect with the region’s rich ethnic diversity and traditional lifestyles.
The work critiques the impact of technological progress on marginalized communities, revealing how contemporary developments are deeply entwined with historical and cultural legacies.
