Press release

Diana Thater, a Los Angeles-based artist known for her innovative use of film, video, light, and sound, explores the intersection of natural and artificial worlds in her work. Her installation "Chernobyl Redux" (2023) revisits her 2011 piece about the Chernobyl exclusion zone in Ukraine. The installation features footage of the abandoned town of Prypiat and its wildlife, particularly the endangered Przewalski's Horse, filmed during Thater's time in the zone. By contrasting the decaying infrastructure with the flourishing wildlife, Thater examines the effects of industrial disaster on nature and the potential for regeneration. This updated version includes new footage and continues her exploration of time and space in art.
