Peter Duka
Press release
Of course, it's also about landscapes. The majority of Peter Duka's pictures are landscapes. He ‘comes from the landscape’. As historically agreed, his paintings have everything that landscape paintings need: they have a foreground, a middle ground and a background. Layers. They don't need linear perspective etc., a line, something horizontal is enough. The pictures also have ground or, if you like, ground, vegetation with or without people or animals, a sky with or without clouds. Light and water, even reflections. Although the landscape format is called ‘landscape format’, Duka's landscapes in this exhibition are portrait format. In other words, landscapes like mirrors, so that the landscape sections sometimes appear almost ‘human’, like an inner horizon? What is behind the pictures? The question really gets me excited. Better ask yourselves what happened before!
