Dubravka Lošić: Compelled by Fright and Beauty
Artists
Dubravka Lošić
Press release
The exhibition brings together seven bodies of work conceived as open systems in continuous transformation, where painting, sculpture, and material converge into a highly distinctive visual language. Lošić begins with painting only to push it beyond its limits: canvases expand, swell, are stitched, bound, and sealed, revealing tensions between what is contained and what inevitably emerges.
The installation unfolds between the courtyard and the Piano Nobile of Palazzo Zorzi, creating an environment suspended between the unsettling and the beautiful. Materials such as wool, textile, wood, and metal give form to works that explore vulnerability, memory, silence, and resistance, in a constant balance between control and impulse. The artist employs a hybrid language marked by a strong material presence.
A central element of the project is the interplay between containment and flow: the works are wrapped, compressed, protected — yet something always escapes. This gesture becomes a metaphor for an existential condition, in which silence itself emerges as a form of expression and resistance.
In dialogue with the Biennale theme, In Minor Keys, Lošić’s work unfolds as a meditative, almost musical process, shaped by emotional tonalities that move from melancholy to quietude, opening a space for reflection and attentive listening.
