Picabia. Open the Gates of Night
Artists
Francis Picabia
Press release
"Picabia. Open the Gates of Night" is the largest exhibition ever held in Italy dedicated to Francis Picabia, one of the most original, elusive, and influential figures in the 20th century art. Picabia moved among some of the defining figures of modernity, including Duchamp, Stein and Picasso, moving freely through Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, and Dada, never identifying himself with a single movement, while also emerging as one of the early pioneers of abstraction. Featuring more than 170 works, including paintings, drawings, photographs, documents and archival materials from international collections, the exhibition's itinerary explores Picabia's night as a metaphor for life, desire and reinvention, revealing the creative universe of an artist in constant transformation.
