An exhibition about loneliness, being alone – and everything in between Aloneness sounds like withdrawal, like deliberately shutting the door behind you. It calls to mind a studio, a dreamy haven of creativity in which the artist can be at one with herself and her work. And it carries echoes of freedom – the autonomy of the cowboy riding off into the sunset. Loneliness, by comparison, lurks within our own four walls, where emptiness and silence prevail. It also haunts the digital universe, which promises proximity but opens up distance. And it remains doggedly present even in the supposedly romantic twosome, where speechlessness sets the tone. This exhibition probes the nuances of two conditions that are very much alike yet could scarcely be more different.
