Guggenheim-Preis / Residency 2018–2023
Artists
Ella Littwitz, Georg Keller
Press release
Opening: Saturday, 23.11.24, 5-8 pm
Dr. Georg and Josi Guggenheim were a Jewish art collector couple who observed the hardened fronts in the Middle East with concern throughout their lives and participated in the peace process according to their means. Against this backdrop, the Dr. Georg and Josi Guggenheim Foundation initiated a residency exchange program between Switzerland and the Middle East in 2018 in order to continue the founding couple's idea of dialogue. Due to the current political situation, the residency program has been put on hold. The foundation is using this break to launch a four-part series of events in collaboration with various cultural institutes in Zurich. This offers a broader public the opportunity to get to know the previous prizewinners and their work and at the same time to reflect on what the role of art can be in conflict situations.
The first exhibition at BINZ39 shows new works by the first two prizewinners Ella Littwitz (*1982) and Georg Keller (*1981). In the artist talk on the opening evening, the two will give an insight into their artistic work. The artist Khalil Rabah (*1961) from Ramallah was part of the jury for the residency and will also take part in the artist talk.
