Gwendolyn Lootens: Artist in house
Artists
Gwendolyn Lootens
Press release
CC Strombeek welcomes Gwendolyn Lootens for one week in September in the framework of her project scales of a moment (working title). During her stay, the artist will try out several spatial installations in our exhibition space. In the summer of 2027 these will be further developed during a residency at KIOSK, followed by a solo exhibition presenting the project as a whole. The work of Gwendolyn Lootens is immaterial, fragile, and ephemeral. Repetitive gestures and everyday objects give rise to an abstract, often playful visual language. She's also exploring how drawing, abstraction and repetition relates to material and increasingly immaterial labour. In the project scales of a moment, Lootens explores spatial concepts that operate both within exhibition and in performative context. It emphasizes the tension between objective and subjective experiences of scale (both in terms of time and in terms of space). Unfolding and activating the archive, the artist weaves together drawing, video, sound, and performance, always with an eye for the social and participatory dimensions of her practice. The project unfolds through four pillars, developed in dialogue with various collaborators: materializing video works within space, developing polysonic sound installations, creating mobile scenographic elements, and exploring drawing and video as forms of choreography. scales of a moment is supported by a project grant from the Flemish Government in partnership with KIOSK, Meow collective, Disegni network KULeuven, Herculeslab, VidiSquare, Studio Inneke, MER Paper Kunsthalle and CC Strombeek.
