Press release
Bernard Jacobson Gallery is proud to present Howard Hodgkin: Early Prints, an exhibition that explores the experimental and dynamic printmaking practice of the celebrated British artist Howard Hodgkin (1932–2017). This exhibition focuses on the pivotal early prints by Hodgkin, showcasing the vibrancy, emotional intensity, and innovation of his printmaking.
Though Hodgkin is best known for his vivid, large-scale paintings, his printmaking practice offers an equally compelling insight into his creative evolution. From the 1970s onwards, Hodgkin began exploring the medium of print with the same exuberance and emotional depth that defined his painting. Many of the prints featured in this exhibition were published by Bernard Jacobson and highlight the pairs long-standing working relationship. Bernard Jacobson played a crucial role in Hodgkin’s development as a printmaker, allowing him to experiment with various techniques such as lithography, etching, and screenprinting.
