Salvatore Emblema
Press release
White Cube is pleased to present a solo exhibition of early work by Italian artist Salvatore Emblema (1929–2006). Working with the coarse material quality of raw jute and sackcloth, Emblema’s compositions explore the interplay between space, colour, texture and light. Harnessing the semi-transparency afforded by the structural weave of jute, the artist emphasises the journey of light as it penetrates the gauze – an effect further realised through the artist’s use of pigment, from dense impasto to stained application.
'Inside the White Cube' is a programme of exhibitions profiling work by artists who have not previously shown at the gallery. The series provides a stimulating platform for exploring developments in contemporary practice by artists from across the globe.
