Timescape
Artists
Jorge Martins
Press release
The exhibition Timescape brings together around 50 works — paintings and drawings — by Jorge Martins. Made in recent years, the works focus on the question of abstraction, which has occupied the artist for several decades. The show also includes archival material such as notebooks that reveal how the artist's creative process incorporates aphorisms, quotations and visual studies. The exhibition itinerary seeks to highlight how time is made visible through the creative act, unfolding in multiple forms that bring us closer to the enigma of existence. Jorge Martins's work draws us toward themes linked not only to art history — landscape, light, colour or its absence — but also to other fields of knowledge such as quantum cosmology, where 'Timescape' refers to the very structure of the birth of time and space. Curated by Óscar Faria.
