Press release
In Jours de relâche, Margot Pietri invites the viewer to adopt the position of a kind of pedestrian or stroller within a space where the relationships of scale and the boundaries between inside and outside are revealed to be floating. We enter the exhibition as if in a kind of enigmatic urbanism, composed of small architectures perched on broad plinths and paintings whose sculpted hanging systems and frontality are reminiscent of shutters. As a whole, they give the impression of being withdrawn into a domestic/indoor space to which we are more or less denied access. The overall chromatic unity, a purplish blue slightly diluted like ink, is a kind of compromise between the colour of fin-de-siècle melancholy and that of the ultra-violet rays diffused by the screens responsible for our contemporary visual fatigue. At the very start of this exhibition, there is a fictional story, still being written by the artist, in which a community of characters spend their sleepless nights, precisely between midnight and two o'clock, swapping stories on forums. It's about reappropriating this ‘illness’ of the night through resilient and resistant forms of sociality.
