Kunst und Papier
Press release
While three-dimensional objects made of paper used to be models or experiments, paper sculptures have long since become firmly established in contemporary art. The Bauhaus artist Josef Albers described what makes paper so special: With a single bend, a flat, two-dimensional object becomes three-dimensional. The exhibition Art without Reason shows contemporary installations, sculptures and reliefs made from and with paper. But this art is ‘without reason’. On display are works that hang on the wall or from the ceiling and often pick up on the lightness of paper as a medium. Visitors are invited to discover the boundaries between two- and three-dimensionality, between permanence and fragility. The works from the ‘Kunst aus Papier’ collection are complemented by a number of loans.
