For her first exhibition at Raffaella Cortese, Liliana Moro conceives a site-specific intervention that extends across the gallery’s three spaces through a transformation of light. The light entering from outside is altered, changing the perception of the interiors and transforming the image of the exhibition as seen from the street. The relationship between inside and outside is thus distorted and called into question. Each space becomes a perceptual threshold, introducing visitors into an unstable condition in which vision is inevitably filtered. Inside, a constellation of heterogeneous elements is removed from its original functions and placed in a state of suspension. Rather than presenting themselves as symbols to be deciphered, these elements retain gestures, memories, and possibilities for action, like traces of something that might occur at an indeterminate moment or seems already to have happened elsewhere. As often occurs in Moro’s practice, the familiar suddenly appears off-kilter: everyday objects lose their apparent self-evidence, while the ordinary takes on an unexpected physical and mental density. Across the three spaces on Via Stradella, the artist constructs an environment in which things remain close at hand and recognisable, yet appear displaced, elusive, and charged with ambiguity, poised at a threshold of sensory intensity. The exhibition operates as a device for attention, asking visitors to inhabit the uncertain interval between seeing and understanding.
