Press release

More than 80 works from six centuries step into the spotlight: delicate woodcuts, masterly etchings and monumental formats bring the diversity of printmaking to life at the Kunsthaus Zürich. The exhibition spans from Dürer, Rembrandt and Goya to modern times. The works are arranged by technique, showing how woodcut, etching or engraving have been reinterpreted over the centuries. In modernity, artists such as Käthe Kollwitz, Mary Cassatt and Dieter Roth explored new procedures. Format, too, was pushed to the limit, as exemplified by Chuck Close’s monumental self-portrait. The selection of more than 80 prints has been curated by Jonas Beyer. A richly illustrated catalogue accompanies the show and extends the volume ‘Masterpieces of Drawing. 100 Years of the Prints and Drawings Collection at the Kunsthaus Zürich’ to include the field of printmaking.
