Antifragil

Artists

Margaret Whyte

Press release

The title references the concept of "antifragilità" elaborated by mathematician Nassim Nicholas Taleb, indicating systems that not only resist shocks and instability but actually strengthen themselves through disorder. With ANTIFRAGIL, the Uruguay Pavilion proposes a reflection on the transformation of fragility into language and the idea that instability and fracture can become tools for rethinking the relationships between matter and history, errors and artistic imagination. Using textiles, obsolete machines, helmets and fragments of debris, Whyte constructs a sculptural environment where fragility becomes strength, addressing gender politics, social conflict and historical transformation, positioning vulnerability as a catalyst for creative force. Born in Montevideo where she lives and works, Margaret Whyte has developed an installation practice that crosses different languages and supports, creating site-specific installations with residues and materials from ultra-capitalist culture to investigate how different forms of existence can coexist. Curator: Patricia Bentancur.
