Matías Duville: Monitor Yin Yang
Artists
Matías Duville
Press release
Titled Monitor Yin Yang and curated by Josefina Barcia, the project presents a monumental drawing made with salt and charcoal that entirely covers the floor of the Pavilion of the Argentine Republic at the Biennale’s building in Venice. As visitors move through the space, the work transforms, incorporating their movement and presence as an essential part of its meaning.
Matías Duville (Buenos Aires, 1974) works with objects, video, and installations, though his practice unfolds primarily through drawing. His works evoke desolate scenes with rarefied, timeless atmospheres — moments that seem to precede a cataclysm: hurricanes, tidal waves, or abandoned forests. They operate like the dreamlike vision of a wandering explorer, mapping inner and mental landscapes.
