Press release
Larkin Erdmann is proud to present a solo exhibition dedicated to Max Bill (1908–1994), born in Winterthur and raised in Switzerland in an environment shaped by precision and early modern design culture. He later studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau, an experience that proved formative for his practice across disciplines. As an artist, architect, designer, and theorist, Bill played a key role in defining and advancing the principles of Concrete Art, and his work had a lasting international influence, particularly in South America following his Grand Prize for sculpture at the São Paulo Biennale in 1951. The exhibition brings together works from the 1940s to the early 1980s, showing how Bill developed a precise visual language based on structure, proportion, and clarity. His practice is grounded in the idea that form can be constructed through rational principles, where composition is determined by order rather than expression. A selection of vintage furniture designed by Max Bill is included in collaboration with Rock Design, extending his approach to form and function into everyday space. Max Bill will be on view from 23 April to 1 June 2026.
