Press release
The Petite Galerie offers young audiences and families an introductory approach to creation through a selection of works from the MEP's collections, as part of the exhibition Dennis Morris — Music + Life. In dialogue with the exhibition Dennis Morris — Music + Life, explore the photographs of 25/34 Photographes, a duo composed of Ralf Marsault and Heino Muller, who offer a committed perspective on the punk movement. Both photographers began collaborating under this pseudonym in the early 1980s, when they were 25 and 34 years old, respectively. Immersed in the underground scene, they frequented punk concerts in London, Berlin, and Paris. Together, they decided to create a series of portraits grouped under the title “Fin de siècle.” Before capturing their photographs, they sought out unique locations and surprising architectural forms to frame their subjects. They then invited friends and acquaintances to pose in these carefully chosen settings. Each individual expressed their personality through their posture, clothing, distinctive features, tattoos, and symbols. Ralf Marsault and Heino Muller crafted these portraits collaboratively with their models, carefully managing every step of the image-making process: the setting, the subject, the lighting, and the printing. Their approach demonstrates genuine empathy for their subjects, who actively participated in the process and imbued the photographs with a powerful sense of individuality. Among the 250 portraits they created, several feature women, including Armelle, Christine, Dee, Elaine, Janette, Karine, Pascale, Norma, Sue, and Orlane. Come discover them!
