Press release
Text: Isabella Celewitz-Engelke (2026) Sebastian Tröger (b. 1986 in Erlangen, lives in Nuremberg) creates layered visual worlds in which painting, installation, text and sound merge into an open artistic cosmos. His practice moves between observation and imagination, art-historical references and contemporary concerns. Animals appear as recurring protagonists – wolves, snakes and butterflies inhabit nocturnal landscapes and enigmatic scenes that feel at once familiar and strangely remote. Tröger’s works do not tell linear stories. Instead, they open up spaces in which meanings remain fluid and constantly shift. What may initially appear playful, fairy-tale-like or humorous gradually reveals an unsettling ambiguity. His figures are deliberately open to interpretation: they emerge as companions, observers or surfaces of projection, reflecting a present shaped by uncertainty, transformation and contradictory experiences.
