Sheila Hicks / Piero Dorazio. Interlacing Colours
Artists
Sheila Hicks, Piero Dorazio
Press release
curated by Silvia Bignami This exhibition stems from a previously unpublished memory of Sheila Hicks: her first encounter with Piero Dorazio in Milan in May 1960. Her acquaintance with Dorazio added a new dimension—and a significant influence—to her artistic development: in his "interlacing colors," in the grids of vertical and horizontal lines, Hicks sensed a "strong textile sensibility." These memories are brought to life by materials unearthed from the artists' respective archives, including three paintings from 1960 donated by the Roman artist and on view for the first time. Further evidence of this connection includes a site-specific work dedicated to Dorazio and two works by Hicks that highlight his influence.
