Sandra Mujinga
Press release
Sandra Mujinga envisions alternative worlds at the intersection of technology, human and animal. Inspired by archeology, posthumanity and science fiction, her works investigate new models of being on a planet marked by uncertainty and transformation. She creates large-scale sculptures that appear as hybrid beings or time-travellers standing guard or being on the lookout, conveying a sense of an intimate futurity, a coming community that is resistant to suveillance and violence.
This exhibition will present an expansive selection of new and recent works by Mujinga in close interaction with the architecture of Den Frie. At the centre of the building is the sculptural sound installation Time as a Shield (2024), consisting of towering tree-like sculptures draped in textiles, positioned on the threshold between nature and technology.
The show’s title, Sløyfe, suggests repetition, continuity and surprising returns, a tying together of what we normally think of as separated, looping perspectives to make the landscape change.
