Subterranean Hunger

Sara-Vide Ericson
Press release
Landscapes, darkness and transformation. Sara-Vide Ericson (b. 1983, SE) is one of the Nordic region's foremost innovators of painting. With her large, figurative oil paintings, Ericson takes her starting point in her immediate surroundings in Hälsingland in northern Sweden.
In his largest solo exhibition to date, SUBTERRANEAN HUNGER at Gammel Strand, Ericson opens up a sensuous and mythological universe where landscapes and contemporary figures merge in an intense exploration of identity, ritual and transformation.
Based on his own bodily experiences, Ericson's works move between the recognizable scenes of everyday life and a dreamy layer of prehistoric symbols and primal instincts. The North Swedish landscape seeps into the works, where you step into something - and come out changed.
