The Ploughshare shows the limits that language itself reaches. Ben Cottrell claims a "branding" for himself. Mariola Groener insists on a "reduced, clear, striking and direct expression". But in the branding of a company, metaphysics only finds a place in the loop of the logo. And expression does not exist in what Aristotle finds in his Metaphysics as the most certain principle: Either one thing must be said or the other. Ben Cottrell's drawings are not either expressive or conventional. Nor are they either pop or baroque. Mariola Groener's photograms are light and dark, but they do not stand for either/or. That which becomes present by emerging remains absent. What seems direct as a sign is indirect as a symbol.
