Tolia Astakhishvili

Press release

Emalin is pleased to present Tolia Astakhishvili’s first solo exhibition in the United Kingdom, and her first with the gallery. Working with raw construction materials, the artist creates site-specific architectural environments that reconfigure existing walls, obscure windows and shift orientations, unsettling the logic of the spaces she engages. Within these provisional frameworks, Astakhishvili interweaves everyday objects, images, drawings, paintings, texts and sound into assemblages that evoke memory, loss and the unstable boundaries of lived experience, rendering visible the psychological and the poetic.

Tolia Astakhishvili (b. 1974, Tbilisi, Georgia) lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia and Berlin, Germany. Her recent solo exhibitions include to love and devour at Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation, Venice, IT (2025); Result, LC Queisser, Tbilisi, GE (2025); between father and mother, SculptureCenter, New York, US (2024); The First Finger (chapter II), Haus am Waldsee, Berlin, DE (2023); The First Finger, Bonner Kunstverein, DE (2023); and I think it’s closed, Kunstverein Bielefeld, DE (2023).
