Press release
The exhibition “POV” (Point of View) brings together two artistic approaches that explore the internal order of an image and its relationship to depth. They play with the reduction and partial disappearance of perspective. Through the use of abstraction and repetition in Anita Schmid’s work, and narrative figuration in Yuhao Chen’s, “POV” invites a dialogue between two approaches to visual representation. Yuhao Chen’s paintings depict bodies at a standstill or in slow motion within spaces where gravity appears to be weakened. The “setting” (nature, interiors…), the human and animal figures appear to be floating and detached from their surroundings, even though the overall image forms a fluid unity. Anita Schmid’s geometric, meditative compositions in oil pastel on paper function as visual translations of inner spiritual experiences, transformed into abstract forms, colors, and patterns, causing invisible energies to appear and disappear, as in a kaleidoscope.
